How To Measure Your Ottoman For A Custom Cushion

Use the following step-by-step measuring instructions to guide you through measuring your ottomans and footstools or other rectangular footrests for new custom cushions. Most of our ottoman cushion styles require width and depth measurements, which are adjustable in ½ inch increments, as well as a thickness measurement which is adjustable in 1 inch increments from 2 to 6 inches thick.
  • Thickness Measurement

    Step 1 - Ottoman Cushion Thickness

    We recommend selecting your cushion thickness first. Our ottoman cushions range in thickness from 2 to 5 inches.

  • Width Measurement

    Step 2 - Ottoman Cushion Width

    The ottoman cushion width is measured from side to side as shown in the image on the left.

    Remember that you must measure the actual area of your furniture that you would like to be covered by the cushion, not an old ottoman cushion.

  • Depth Measurement

    Step 3 - Ottoman Cushion Depth

    The ottoman cushion depth is measured from front to back as shown in the image on the left.

    Squared Corners
    Ottoman cushions with squared corners have a 90 degree angle on all corners

    Ottoman cushions with rounded corners have a radius of 6″ on all corners

Determine The Correct Thickness
If you are unsure what cushion thickness to select, you can easily determine the optimal cushion thickness for your ottoman frame by stacking a book or two on your ottoman ottoman to get a rough idea of how thick your cushion should be. If your ottoman frame has arm rests, make sure that the cushion is not too thick as this could result in the arms being too low for the person sitting on the ottoman.

Do Not Measure Old Cushions
Do not measure an existing or old ottoman pad to order a new cushion. Instead, measure the area of the furniture that you would like to be covered by the new cushion. Using measurements obtained from old cushions may result in new cushions that do not fit properly as cushions often change in size as the fabric becomes worn and stretches from use.

Use The Right Tools
For the most accurate results, we recommend using a rigid measuring tool such as a carpenter's tape measure or a measuring stick. Avoid using 'soft' measuring tools such as tailor's tape.

Round Your Measurements
Your width and depth measurements should be rounded up or rounded down to the nearest ½ inch as most dimensions on our site can be adjusted to a ½ inch prescision.
