How To Measure For A Hinged Chair Cushion

Hinged chair cushions have a connected seat and back that is made with a pinched hinge design. Our custom-made hinged chair cushions are excellent for use on all types of seating, from patio chairs and porch swings, to gliders and sofas. There are 4 required measurements when designing your own hinged chair cushions. • Thickness Measurement

Step 1 - Chair Cushion Thickness

We recommend selecting your cushion thickness first. Our chair cushions range in thickness from 2 to 5 inches.

  • Width Measurement

Step 2 - Chair Cushion Width

The chair cushion width is measured from side to side as shown.

Remember that you must measure the actual area of your furniture that you would like to be covered by the cushion, not an old chair cushion.

  • Seat Depth Measurement

Step 3 - Chair Cushion Seat Depth

The chair cushion's seat portion is measured from front to back as shown.

  • Back Height Measurement

Step 4 - Chair Cushion Back Height

The chair back is measured from the bottom of the back to the top of the back, or the height you would like your cushions to go up on the back of your chair.

Measuring Tips
Required Measurements

  • Seat Depth
  • Back Height
  • Thickness

Determine The Correct Thickness
If you are unsure what cushion thickness to select, you can easily determine the optimal cushion thickness for your bench frame by stacking a book or two on your bench seat to get a rough idea of how thick your cushion should be. If your bench frame has arm rests, make sure that the cushion is not too thick as this could result in the arms being too low for the person sitting on the bench.

Do Not Measure Old Cushions
Do not measure an existing or old chair cushions to order a new custom cushion. Instead, measure the area of the chair that you would like to be covered by the new cushion. Using measurements obtained from an old chair cushion may result in new cushions that do not fit properly as cushions often change in size as the fabric becomes worn and stretches from use.

Use The Right Tools
For the most accurate results, we recommend using a rigid measuring tool such as a carpenter's tape measure or a measuring stick. Avoid using 'soft' measuring tools such as tailor's tape.

Round Your Measurements
Your width and depth measurements should be rounded up or rounded down to the nearest ½ inch as most dimensions on our site can be adjusted to a ½ inch prescision.
